Since we have two different houses, we decided we are going to try two different approaches to energy backup. For the main house, I think we’ll need close to 20-50kWh probably closer to 50kWh of battery storage.

But for the office, I think we can get by with 10-20kWh. So we decided since we already had 2 EcoFlow Delta Pro batteries, why not try the EcoFlow Smart Home Panel.

Before we talk about the panel, let me tell you why decided to go this route

The main home will have built in permanent batteries, but we want some portable batteries too, that we can take with us on camping trips, or maybe an RV one day. So instead of having portable batteries sitting around, we decided the office made sense. This way they get us off-grid when we’re home, and we can take them with us when we travel.

This really is the main use case for why this makes sense. If you have NO plans of traveling or ever needing a portable battery, I’d probably recommend going another route.

Smart Home Panel ~ $1,600

Electrician Install ~ $1,000

Ecoflow Delta Pro ~ $3,600

Extra Battery ~ $2,400

So to start with a panel and just one Delta pro, you can be up and running for $6,200. This is nice, but remember you’ll only have 3.6kWh of storage.

So  a 7kW system would cost $8,500.

For an equivalent to a Tesla Powerwall, you’d need 14kWh which is 2 delta pros and 2 smart extra batteries.

That would cost $14,600, roughly the same price as a Tesla Powerwall.

At that price, its hard to not recommend something like a powerwall. But if you want portable batteries, and like the idea of adding storage over time, this could make sense.

Also with 2 extra batteries per Delta pro, for a total of 6 batteries, you’d have over 20kWh of storage. So it’s quite expandable.

This system has been running for 2 weeks now and so far so good! But stay here, for updates every few months on how things are going! Also join our mailing list!

Pros
  • Expandability
  • Modularity
  • You can take them on the go whenever you want
  • It has a built in solar charger, and you don’t need any extra inverters
Cons
  • This system is not cheap.
  • Even though the panel is only $1,600 + install, that doesn’t include any batteries.
  • If you don’t have any Delta pro’s already, there may be better options for you
  • Software is good but not great.
  • Missing features like real time energy tracking graphs to show usage over time in a given day.
